Hafid Abbas, GAAMAC III participant, professor at the State University of Jakarta and former president of the Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF), has some recommendations on how the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) can better prevent atrocities.

Writing for the Bangkok Post, he urges ASEAN to work together with GAAMAC to formulate a regional action plan to prevent atrocities. Outlining a five-prong approach, he suggests an intimate involvement of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and SEANF.
