The Simons Forum on The Responsibility to Protect: Re-Energizing the Key Players was convened on 22-24 March 2017 by the Simons Foundation under the auspices of the Simons Visiting Chair in International Law and Human Security at Simon Fraser University.
The Conference was chaired, and the opening public lecture given, by Professor the Hon. The report of the Simons Forum is now published: The Responsibility to Protect: Re-Energizing the Key Players.
The report highlights discussions held during a two-day high-level invitational forum of 30 experts, as well as the considerable efforts made in advancing and implementing of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P). It explains the role of key actors and provides recommendations on how the principles of R2P can be achieved.
The Simons Foundation has been working with the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies at Concordia University and the new report underlines the contribution of the Foundation’s work in advancing atrocity prevention.
