Youth Association for Development is among the winners of the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s Innovation for Sustainable Development Awards 2019
Mr. Atta ul Haq, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Association for Development (YAD), a GAAMAC partner in Pakistan, has been selected as one of the fifteen winners of the first Innovation for Sustainable Development Awards initiated by Commonwealth Secretary-General Rt Hon. Patricia Scotland last September.
YAD was granted an award in the category Promoting Peace with its project on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) based in the province of Baluchistan. The project promotes the participation of women and girls in discussions and decisions on peace and security through a 4Ps philosophy (Peace, Promotion, Protection and Prevention).
The Innovation for Sustainable Development Awards was created to celebrate innovators who have developed forward-looking solutions to help Commonwealth countries and people advance towards the realization of the SDGs, while promoting the values in the Commonwealth Charter. Fifteen winners are selected by an independent jury, based on the impact or potential of their innovations. These awards, as stated by Secretary-General Rt Hon. Patricia Scotland “honour pioneering thinking and valuable examples of innovation that have been developed by Commonwealth citizens working in government, business or civil society”.
