The Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies, in partnership with Yazda, will host a panel discussion to mark the 6th anniversary of the Yazidi Genocide.

This event will be streamed on our YouTube channel as well as our Facebook page.

Featured speakers:

Natia Navrouzov, Yazda Global Yazidi Organization. Natia will speak on the current status of efforts to bring ISIS fighters to justice for the genocide.

Nicolette Waldman, Amnesty International. Nicolette will speak on a recently released report for Amnesty International centering the challenges and risks faced by Yazidi child survivors of ISIS captivity.

Join the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) at Concordia University, Amnesty International Francophone Canada, the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, the Canadian International Council and the Centre for International Peace and Security Studies at McGill University for #RightsCity 2019.

#RightsCity is a global initiative that brings together inspiring leaders with the goal to provide insights into pressing human rights issues.

This large-scale event will include discussions on atrocity prevention, and will feature presentations from Mr. Adama Dieng (United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide), Mr. Romeo Dallaire (Canadian retired Lieutenant-General and Senator, humanitarian advocate, founder of the Child Soldiers Initiative and MIGS Distinguished Senior Fellow) and Ms. Jennifer Welsh (Canada 150 Research Chair in Global Governance and Security at McGilll University, former United Nations Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect).

On the 70th anniversary of the UN adoption of the Genocide Convention, the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) at Concordia, in partnership with the Montreal Holocaust Museum, the Canadian Museum of Human Rights and the Alliance for Genocide Awareness and Remembrance, are hosting a public event in honour of the International Day for the Prevention of Genocide. Speakers include the Honourable Allan Rock, former Canadian Minister of Justice and Ambassador to the UN, as well as several survivors of genocide and atrocities, including Éloge Butera, Eva Kuper and Ketty Nivyabandi.

The Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) is organizing a briefing event with Mr. Rais Bhuiyan, who will discuss his experience as the victim of a hate crime in the U.S., as well as his organization World Without Hate through which he works towards the realization of a violence-free world.
