Recommendations for states at the 10th anniversary of R2P by ICRtoP

3 Jul 2015

With 2015 marking the 10th anniversary of R2P's adoption, the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect (ICRtoP) has prepared an infographic, "What Can Your Organization Do to Advance the Responsibility to Protect at 2015?", as part of their #R2P10 blog series, detailing recommendations for national governments to advance the responsibility to protect norms and operations at the national, regional, and international levels.

In the same blog series, Alex Bellamy, Executive Director of the Asia Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, contributes some reflections on the responsibility to protect at 10: three conceptual issues of R2P (how to address state responsibility when threat of mass violence comes from non-state armed groups; how to distinguish endemic violence and R2P crimes; how to address individual dimensions of state responsibility); three institutionalization issues (at the UN, regional, and state levels); and three challenges to operationalize R2P (how to prioritize protection principles; delivering existing protection mandates; to do more to protect while ensuring state accountability).
